<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A guide led us through their their Wonderland: Curious Nature plant exhibit. Afterwards, we enjoyed an afternoon tea. The story of <em>Alice in Wonderland</em> inspired both.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The plant exhibit was beautiful and thoughtfully curated. You start the exhibit by walking through a Victorian garden&#8211;the world Alice belonged to before going through the rabbit hole. Then, you walk through a door representing the rabbit hole. Fantastic, almost otherworldly plants greet you on the other side. I particularly loved the Amazon lily pads and the spotted begonias. (You&#8217;ll see photos when you click to read more.) </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can use almost anything to make cold brewed tea at home. Glass is the obvious choice. I&#8217;ve often used glass jars and big Pyrex glass measuring cups, for example. (If making iced tea by heating the water, make sure the glass is heat-safe.)</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you find you are making <em>cold brewed</em> teas often, then I highly recommend the Hario Cold Brew Tea Wine Bottle. It&#8217;s easy to use, pour from, and clean. The bottom cylinder is glass and is recommended for up to 750ml of tea.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Hario Cold Brew bottle has a silicone rubber top and a plastic filter. While the tea steeps (or rests) in your refrigerator, the liquid only touches the glass. Of course, to pour it out to drink, the tea slides past the silicone and filter.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Good news! If you lose the filter, you can reorder that part from Hario. (Ask me how I know&#8230;lol!) The filter is great because it keeps the tea leaves out of your glass when you pour it.</p>

Note: if you are infusing directly in the seltzer instead of using the concentrate method, the infusion generally takes longer than cold brewing in regular water. (Details at the hyperlinked post!)</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-tasty-things-to-add-to-your-iced-tea">Tasty Things to Add to Your Iced Tea</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Add a sprig of fresh herbs to your iced tea! Although mint is classic, why not try rosemary or lemon balm? I might try a sprig of thyme when I next steep an herbaceous white tea. Also, you can toss in a few roses or rosebuds if you have any food-grade roses that are suitable for steeping. A slice of fresh ginger can be refreshing and add a little kick to your iced tea.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You surely already know about adding lemon slices. The recipes and my exchanges with Soo Park of Soocha Tea introduced me to adding a slice of lime or <a href="https://www.soochatea.ca/blogs/recipes/ginger-pear-sejak-iced-tea?_pos=2&amp;_sid=03ea1bb40&amp;_ss=r" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Asian pear</a> to Korean green teas&#8211;why not try one of these for other green teas?</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I also love making a very hearty, malty black tea (using something like an East Frisian blend or an Assam) or a roasted oolong. Make it, chill it, then add either thick milk or cream. Delicious and with a fun texture, too.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There&#8217;s always fresh fruit, too! </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-secret-iced-tea-tip">Secret Iced Tea Tip</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Nicole McKinney of <a href="https://www.instagram.com/tea_on_the_trail/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@teaonthetrail</a> posted recently about enjoying iced tea in tea cups. I drink my iced tea this way a lot, too! It reminded me that I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;ve ever shared why I often do this in the summer (besides loving teacups). </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There&#8217;s another advantage to serving iced tea in a teacup with a saucer: to avoid condensation making rings on your table and dripping in your lap on a hot day. Condensation dilemma solved! And, it feels like living your best life!</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-s-steeping">What&#8217;s Steeping</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Spring suddenly brought us some very warm days in my part of New York&#8211;a signal to bring out my Hario cold-brew bottle. Since then, I have been enjoying iced tea. I&#8217;ve started off steeping a green tea from Korea and an oolong tea from Taiwan&#8211;<a href="https://www.soochatea.ca/collections/all-teas/products/sejak" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sejak from Soocha Tea</a> and <a href="https://tecompanytea.com/products/ruby-brew-oolong" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ruby from Té Company</a>, respectively.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">So good! The cold steep amplifies the nutty and umami elements of the Sejak and brings out delightful chocolate and sweet notes in the Ruby.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Below: The rolled Ruby oolong tea leaves. Also, a cup of the Ruby prepared cold brewed and a cup of the tea steeped hot and then chilled. Even though the tea that I steeped hot is noticeably darker in color, both teas are equally flavorful. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Unfortunately, I used up all my Sejak before I thought to get a photo in time for the newsletter. Luckily, I was able to order more since Soocha Tea recently received the 2024 teas from Korea.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I have one big problem with iced tea: it&#8217;s so, so easy to keep refilling my glass! Do you, too, find you drink more tea on hot days when it&#8217;s prepared and hanging out in your fridge? </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-teaware-talk-panda-teacup">Teaware Talk: Panda Teacup</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This month’s spotlighted teacup is a sentimental one. It’s part of a <strong>panda bear teacup and teapot</strong> set I gave my daughter when she was in elementary school. We used it a lot when she was younger, although almost never with real tea. She was a huge fan of frothed cinnamon or chai-spiced milk at that time. We also used to have a David’s Tea at our local mall. My daughter particularly loved their Strawberry Kiwi tisane.&nbsp;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-back-of-the-cupboard">Back of the Cupboard</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The photo of the panda teacup is from those days. I snapped it as she was about to take the cup after patiently waiting for me to stop photographing the cup.</p>

<div class="wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile"><figure class="wp-block-media-text__media"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="587" height="776" src="http://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/panda-cup-cropped-only-from-2016.jpg" alt="Ceramic teacup with the upside down face of a panda bear. A small hand is reaching for the cup. A cinnamon stick is visible poking out of the cup." class="wp-image-4524 size-full" srcset="https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/panda-cup-cropped-only-from-2016.jpg 587w, https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/panda-cup-cropped-only-from-2016-227x300.jpg 227w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 587px) 100vw, 587px" /></figure><div class="wp-block-media-text__content">
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We haven’t used the set often in the past few years. The matching teapot is adorable, but very inconvenient–it has such a narrow opening at the top that it’s hard to get out the tea leaves you steep in there. And, even tea bags don’t work. Once they are infused, they are too wide to get out without an epic battle. The teapot used to have an ingenious small and long metal mesh filter that fit in there for loose leaf teas. But, we lost it and I haven’t been able to find one the right size since then.&nbsp;</p>
</div></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-returning-to-regular-use">Returning to Regular Use</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As I was looking for things to declutter recently, I suggested giving away the set. That was a hard “no” from my daughter. (I&#8217;ll be honest. I was relieved!) So, we’ve brought the teacup back into rotation and I’m renewing my search for a food-grade mesh metal filter for the teapot. I am hoping that I can find one narrow and long enough to help us start using the teapot again. Have you ever had teaware out of service due to its inconvenience and been able to resolve that issue? I’d love to hear that story.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-what-s-steeping">What&#8217;s Steeping</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>At home, I have been particularly enjoying&#8230;</strong></p>

I&#8217;m happy to share my sincere enthusiasm for this tea! It&#8217;s a comforting and uplifting combination of brothy, garden greens, and floral notes. I&#8217;m also thoroughly enjoying their Nepali Breakfast Organic Chai.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-teaware-talk-rosenthal-duchess">Teaware Talk: Rosenthal Duchess</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">April&#8217;s highlighted teaware from my collection was passed down through the family. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-backstory-of-this-teacup">Backstory of This Teacup</h3>

<div class="wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile"><div class="wp-block-media-text__content">
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">My mother-in-law, Anneli, had boxes with many, many pieces of a Rosenthal Duchess china set. She brought the set in Germany before she married my husband&#8217;s father. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">She admired them in a specialty store one day. Some time later, she was still thinking about the beautiful china set but not planning to purchase them. She told her fiancé, my future father-in-law, and even took him to see them.</p>
</div><figure class="wp-block-media-text__media"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="385" height="326" src="http://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Rosenthal-magical-moment-on-rocks-cropped.jpg" alt="Rosenthal Duchess Ivory teacup and saucer with gold and platinum trim on rocks." class="wp-image-4416 size-full" srcset="https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Rosenthal-magical-moment-on-rocks-cropped.jpg 385w, https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Rosenthal-magical-moment-on-rocks-cropped-300x254.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 385px) 100vw, 385px" /></figure></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Seeing how she admired it, he encouraged her to get the set. Anneli reminisced about bringing the Rosenthal set to her apartment, writing:</p>

<blockquote class="wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow">
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I remember that Friday evening after work, with the whole weekend free before me; I remember the feeling of wellbeing and happiness and satisfaction that I felt.</p>
</blockquote>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Her response really touched me. How wonderful that our conversation about this teacup led her to recall the encouragement from her future-husband and the warm feelings of bringing this china set home.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-the-set-moves-to-our-home">The Set Moves to Our Home</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Fast forward decades later in the United States. This set was no longer in use. My husband was helping his mom go through things some years ago. They opened the boxes that contained this china. Generously, Anneli gave us the set.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We use the dinnerware piece from this Rosenthal set often, usually on Shabbat or when we have guests over. Still, we all know we&#8217;re <em>here</em> to talk about the TEA cups! Teacups and saucers from this set are in regular rotation for tea time. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The teacups are ivory with a gold and platinum band and a gold loop handle. They have a coordinating saucer. The cups are short and wide, holding 6 ounces (about 200ml) when filled to the very top.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-reasons-i-love-these-teacups">Reasons I Love These Teacups</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There are many reasons I often reach for one of these teacups.</p>

<div class="wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile"><figure class="wp-block-media-text__media"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="480" height="640" src="http://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/rosenthal-side-handle-close-up.jpg" alt="Rosenthal Duchess teacup and saucer detail" class="wp-image-4407 size-full" srcset="https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/rosenthal-side-handle-close-up.jpg 480w, https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/rosenthal-side-handle-close-up-225x300.jpg 225w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 480px) 100vw, 480px" /></figure><div class="wp-block-media-text__content">
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I love this pattern! It goes with everything.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The wide opening allows my tea to cool to a comfortable drinking temperature without much delay.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The size is great! I can pour about 4 ounces or about 150ml of tea into this cup, making it perfect for western-style tea or for drinking tea I prepare more toward gongfu style.</p>
</div></div>

<div class="wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile"><div class="wp-block-media-text__content">
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Although this Rosenthal Duchess teacup isn&#8217;t the traditional teaware for <a href="http://www.teainfusiast.com/east-frisian-tea/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">East Frisian tea</a>, I particularly love to drink that tea from it. It&#8217;s perfect to drink in three sips.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I&#8217;ll stop here to underscore the most important thing.</p>
</div><figure class="wp-block-media-text__media"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="635" src="http://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/east-frisian-cream-pour-gold-and-plat-teacup.jpg" alt="Pouring cream into East Frisian tea" class="wp-image-276 size-full" srcset="https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/east-frisian-cream-pour-gold-and-plat-teacup.jpg 640w, https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/east-frisian-cream-pour-gold-and-plat-teacup-300x298.jpg 300w, https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/12/east-frisian-cream-pour-gold-and-plat-teacup-150x150.jpg 150w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When I drink tea from a piece from this set, it makes me feel closer to my mother-in-law despite the distance that separates us. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Amazing how tea and teaware can connect us across time and space, isn&#8217;t it? That&#8217;s the story of this Rosenthal Duchess teacup.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-recent-teahouse-visits-in-nyc">Recent Teahouse Visits in NYC</h2>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-tea-journey-at-t-shop">&#8220;Tea Journey&#8221; at T Shop</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I trekked into Manhattan to visit <a href="https://www.tshopny.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">T Shop</a> again.</p>

<div class="wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile"><figure class="wp-block-media-text__media"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="360" height="640" src="http://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Tshop-with-pink-flowers.jpg" alt="Exterior entrance to T Shop in Manhattan, New York. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">Although I&#8217;ve enjoying having gongfu tea there several times before, this was the first time I sat at their counter and enjoyed a &#8220;tea journey.&#8221; </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Hyun Lee, one of the owners, took me through several infusions of two teas and a tisane. (It could have been more infusions and three teas if I weren&#8217;t caffeine-sensitive.)</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">She helped me choose by discussing what kind of teas I like, what I was interested in trying, the weather that day, and so on. I also got to choose which of their teacups to use, which I found fun!</p>

<div class="wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile"><figure class="wp-block-media-text__media"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="640" src="http://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Royal-Graftron-red-and-gold-front-view-in-snow.jpg" alt="March 2024 edition of Tea Infusiast News features red and gold Royal Grafton sugar bowl being used as a teacup." class="wp-image-4055 size-full" srcset="https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Royal-Graftron-red-and-gold-front-view-in-snow.jpg 640w, https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Royal-Graftron-red-and-gold-front-view-in-snow-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Royal-Graftron-red-and-gold-front-view-in-snow-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Royal-Graftron-red-and-gold-front-view-in-snow-500x500.jpg 500w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure><div class="wp-block-media-text__content">
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What&#8217;s more, I didn&#8217;t even realize there was a mystery until I began working on this March 2024 edition of the newsletter! I saw this gorgeous red teacup with a gold grapes and leaves in a thrift shop in Portland, Oregon a couple of years ago. It was priced very affordably, so I bought it. I use this cup at home and often slip it into my travel tea bag for tea walks. </p>
</div></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">(In the two photos of this red cup, I combined pink rosebuds and dried quince from <a href="https://chaiaffairs.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Chai Affairs</a> with a <a href="https://kianitea.com/products/yellow-rosebuds" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">yellow rosebud from Kiani Tea</a>. Delightful!)</p>

<div class="wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile"><div class="wp-block-media-text__content">
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I started researching this <strong>Royal Grafton </strong>piece to find out the name of the pattern, etc. To my surprise, I have not been able to identify the pattern. I found one piece with this pattern, but it wasn&#8217;t named. In fact, I couldn&#8217;t find any evidence that Royal Grafton made <em>any</em> handless teacups. Their uncovered sugar bowls sometimes have this size and shape.</p>
</div><figure class="wp-block-media-text__media"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="640" src="http://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Royal-Grafton-red-and-gold-top-view-in-snow.jpg" alt="Red and gold Royal Grafton sugar bowl being used as a teacup. Inside, two pink rosebuds, a yellow rosebud, and a slice of dried quince make a lovely tisane." class="wp-image-4054 size-full" srcset="https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Royal-Grafton-red-and-gold-top-view-in-snow.jpg 640w, https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Royal-Grafton-red-and-gold-top-view-in-snow-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Royal-Grafton-red-and-gold-top-view-in-snow-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Royal-Grafton-red-and-gold-top-view-in-snow-500x500.jpg 500w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">My research, thus, suggests that <strong>this &#8220;teacup&#8221; is actually an uncovered sugar bowl</strong>. I thought it was a fluted, gongfu teacup! It&#8217;s a great as a teacup, so I&#8217;m going to keep using it that way. If you have any insight about the name of this pattern, please leave a comment. I&#8217;d love to know!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One other backstory to this piece is very meaningful to me. This teacup was one of the first that I started adding to my teaware travel bag as an &#8220;extra.&#8221; I had an experience that made me want to be prepared in case I ran into someone on my tea walks who would like to have tea. In my &#8220;Tea in the Canyon&#8221; post, I wrote about how a missed opportunity with a stranger inspired this practice. It has been almost two years. I haven&#8217;t had the chance to use that extra teacup on my tea walks, but I haven&#8217;t given up hope! </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-famous-cultivars-processed-unusually">Famous Cultivars, Processed Unusually</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In the last month, I&#8217;ve been enjoying two teas with a twist! Each tea is made from a <a href="https://mizubatea.com/blogs/news-1/what-is-a-tea-cultivar" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">cultivar</a>&#8211;or variety of the tea plant&#8211;known for processing a particular type of tea. One cultivar I&#8217;ve been sipping is known for its use in the oolong Tie Guan Yin (TGY) and another for the green tea Long Jing (Dragonwell). The versions I have been sipping process each cultivar as a black teas&#8211; the TGY cultivar&#8217;s as <strong>Guan Yin Hong</strong> and the Long Jing cultivar&#8217;s as <strong>Black Dragonwell</strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I brought both of these delicious teas at the Toronto Tea Festival in January. A friend and I split both of theses teas, thanks to a <a href="http://www.teainfusiast.com/5-tips-for-attending-tea-festivals/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">tea festival tip</a> to bring extra food grade pouches to share purchases.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I&#8217;m happy to share my thoughts on these teas in this March 2024 edition of <em>Tea Infusiast News</em>.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-black-dragonwell-tea">Black Dragonwell Tea</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The <a href="https://www.theteapractitioner.com/all-teas/black-dragonwell" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Black Dragonwell from The Tea Practitioner</a> was new to me. It&#8217;s from the Hangzhou area of China.</p>

<div class="wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile"><div class="wp-block-media-text__content">
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The first time I prepared the Black Dragonwell, it presented powerful and heavenly notes of orange marmalade. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Subsequence steeps have been different&#8211;but also very good. (And, I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;m doing anything differently. It&#8217;s mystifying!) </p>
</div><figure class="wp-block-media-text__media"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="640" src="http://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/black-dragonwell-tea-leaves.jpg" alt="Black Dragonwell tea leaves in a white dish." class="wp-image-4100 size-full" srcset="https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/black-dragonwell-tea-leaves.jpg 640w, https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/black-dragonwell-tea-leaves-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/black-dragonwell-tea-leaves-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/black-dragonwell-tea-leaves-500x500.jpg 500w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure></div>

<div class="wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile"><figure class="wp-block-media-text__media"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="296" height="501" src="http://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/black-dragonwell-gaiwan-pour-1.jpg" alt="Tea Infusiast pouring Guan Yin Hong tea from a gaiwan into a fairness pitcher. A white and magenta orchid is in the background." class="wp-image-4101 size-full" srcset="https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/black-dragonwell-gaiwan-pour-1.jpg 296w, https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/black-dragonwell-gaiwan-pour-1-177x300.jpg 177w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 296px) 100vw, 296px" /></figure><div class="wp-block-media-text__content">
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I&#8217;ve tasted the fig mentioned in The Tea Practitioner&#8217;s tasting notes on their website. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I&#8217;ve also noted buckwheat honey, and a caramel/milk chocolate flavor that reminds me of a nostalgic candy of my childhood.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I still get an orange marmalade flavor at times, but more muted than that first time. This tea is a like a mood ring&#8211;in the best sense! </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Have you tried Black Dragonwell? What are your tasting notes?</p>
</div></div>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-guan-yin-hong-tea">Guan Yin Hong Tea</h3>

<div class="wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile"><div class="wp-block-media-text__content">
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Whereas Black Dragonwell was new to me, I&#8217;ve purchased the <a href="http://I've purchased the Guan Yin Hong from Zhen Tea many times before. I was happy to reunite with this tea. It tastes of caramel, fruit pie, and honey." target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Guan Yin Hong from Zhen Tea</a> several times before. But, I hadn&#8217;t had it in quite some time. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I was happy to reunite with this tea from Anxi in China! It tastes of caramel, fruit pie, and honey. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I would guess that if you enjoy one of these teas, you would also probably enjoy the other. They have sympathetic flavor profiles.</p>
</div><figure class="wp-block-media-text__media"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="640" src="http://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/guan-yin-hong-tea-leaves-warmer.jpg" alt="Guan Yin Hong tea leaves in a white dish." class="wp-image-4158 size-full" srcset="https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/guan-yin-hong-tea-leaves-warmer.jpg 640w, https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/guan-yin-hong-tea-leaves-warmer-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/guan-yin-hong-tea-leaves-warmer-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/guan-yin-hong-tea-leaves-warmer-500x500.jpg 500w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">I would have loved to compare the Black Dragonwell to Long Jing and the Guan Yin Hong to Tie Guan Yin. It would be fun to see if I could taste any similarities despite the different processing. Alas, I didn&#8217;t have any Long Jing or TGY at home. And, I was enjoying these teas too much to wait. One day, hopefully I&#8217;ll do that side-by-side cultivar tasting.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-tea-shares-another-lesson-about-rest">Tea Shares Another Lesson About Rest</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">As I have mentioned in earlier newsletters, I&#8217;ve had to cut back my tea consumption. These days, I&#8217;m usually only drinking tea in the morning. The process of reducing my tea intake has made me confront one way I used tea that was denying me the rest I needed. </p>

<div class="wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile"><div class="wp-block-media-text__content">
<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Before I share this insight, I would like to emphasize that I regularly incorporate short, mindful tea breaks into my days. They feel gentle, affirming, and restorative. A day with these tea-and-rest pauses is <em>so much better</em> than a day without them. I still interact with tea this way during my morning tea. I used to integrate afternoon tea pauses into my day, too. </p>
</div><figure class="wp-block-media-text__media"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="640" height="640" src="http://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/tea-rest-bonsai-green-teapot.jpg" alt="A green clay teapot pouring tea over a small clay turtle teapot on top of a tiny clay teapot." class="wp-image-4103 size-full" srcset="https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/tea-rest-bonsai-green-teapot.jpg 640w, https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/tea-rest-bonsai-green-teapot-300x300.jpg 300w, https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/tea-rest-bonsai-green-teapot-150x150.jpg 150w, https://www.teainfusiast.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/tea-rest-bonsai-green-teapot-500x500.jpg 500w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px" /></figure></div>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">My experiences with tea have shown its generosity as a gateway to rest and mindfulness. That’s one reason why, for example, I’ve offered tea and rest experiences. Registration, in fact, is open for my online <a href="http://www.teainfusiast.com/rest-kit-for-tea-lovers/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Spring Rest Kit for Tea Lovers</a>. I do want to share some limitations, in my opinion, of *only* using tea as a rest practice.</p>
