This is such a relatable and helpful review! I've also made the mistake of using a hotel coffee maker for tea and learned the hard way that it's a guaranteed way to ruin a good cup. Your detailed points about the boil time, pour, and especially the actual temperature tests are incredibly useful—exactly the kind of info you need before buying.

It's great to hear this balbali kettle has held up so well over two years of use. Thanks for sharing your honest experience and your beautiful travel setup

I take my multi-temp gooseneck kettle every time I travel. Yes, the kettle is a little bulky, but worth it to me. I have several trial size tea containers for my teas, my travel scale, a small metal steeper, and a small bottle of dish soap for cleaning that fit into a small lunch bag.

Thanks for reading, Katharine, and taking the time to comment. Ohhhh. I never even thought about hot tap from gym water cooler. If I am every traveling without my portable kettle, that's a great hack! Thanks!

What a great post, Traci! “ Tea steeped with water run through a coffee maker always tastes like tea made with coffee water. It ruins the tea. Every time.” Couldn’t agree more! When staying at hotels, I used to use the hot water tap from the gym water cooler if it had one. Portable kettles are such a nice upgrade!

Hi Herb's Mama! Thanks for taking the time to read, get your own (similar) kettle (!), and share your experience. What a GREAT IDEA to get a longer plug that fits the kettle. I didn't realize that kind of plug could be purchased independently. It does look like Mickey Mouse...lol. Thanks for the tip!

I got a very similar (same brand I think) portable travel kettle after seeing yours a while back. I agree with what you've said here. I really enjoy the flexibility of such a small device with no coffee taste in it! I was able to purchase (from a 3rd party vendor) a much longer chord that has the same "Mackey mouse" plug as my cord and that has made things much easier. My original cord is only like 18 inches long lol. Thanks for sharing your tea wisdom!
